What makes this Haunted House 360° Digital Escape Room a perfect fit?

My Haunted House Escape Room requires students to understand many character traits, setting, character development, theme, point of view, and author’s message all within the 360° Halloween-themed digital escape room which engages students and peaks their curiosity. As students move around the 360° picture, it changes and reveals more clues for them to solve.

What benefits can I expect from this 360° Escape Room?

1. Improved Understanding of Literary Terms

While the Haunted House Escape Room is designed to bring excitement to the classroom in October, its main purpose is to review and apply character traits standards such as:

  • Recognizing the impacts of setting on a character
  • Noticing how setting, events, character development contribute to plot
  • Inferring a character’s feelings
  • Realizing how a character changes and develops
  • Understanding how character traits help reveal theme
  • Noting the development of theme through details
  • Recognizing a narrator’s point of view
  • Identifying the author’s message

In addition to meeting Common Core standards, the Haunted House Escape Room meets all state character trait standards for Virginia, Texas, and Florida.

Because this is a review game, character traits should be taught before attempting the reading escape room. However, the Halloween Escape Room comes with a free list of character traits.

2. Increased Collaboration

Reading escape rooms are a great way to increase collaboration among your students

Although the Haunted House Escape Room can be an individual task, playing in small groups is best. This allows students to have the added benefit of collaborating with peers and solving problems together. Thorough this type of activity, students develop and use 21st century learning skills. Isn’t that what we all hope to see in our classrooms?

What teachers say:

3. Escape Rooms Get Gritty!

Above all, the Haunted House Escape Room is an activity with purpose!  360° digital escape rooms also improve student resilience and teach them to tackle difficult tasks. As psychologist Angela Lee Duckworth shared in her TED Talk, students who develop grit are more likely to succeed both academically and professionally. Although this digital reading escape room covers both 4th and 5th grade literacy standards, 5th graders typically perform better. However, 4th graders develop grit while using this product!

I love the materials in this resource. The kids were totally engaged and the questions really made them think. Thanks

4. Improved Technology Skills

First, students get to apply literacy skills with a reading escape room. Secondly, they get to develop teamwork and collaboration by working in groups. Third, they develop grit while working to solve complex problems. While doing all of these things, they are getting the added bonus of improving their technology skills. Although our students were basically born with a digital device in their hands, we sometimes take it for granted that they know how to use computers. That is not always the case. Any activity like the Haunted House Digital Escape Room that requires students to use technology to solve problems will improve their digital skills.

What teachers say:

My students absolutely loved this! This also helped expanding their technology knowledge.

  • Piecing together jigsaw puzzles
  • Solving word searches and crossword puzzles
  • Completing fill-in-the-blanks
  • Sequencing events
  • Finding synonyms for specific character traits
  • Reading, listening to, and answering questions based on short stories
